Produce Bargains, First Week as Camp Hosts and Our Outdoor Office

November 1-7,2019 — The beginning of November found us continuing to relish the beautiful Arizona weather full of warmth and sunshine. The days bring us back to the many years spent “up north” freezing and complaining about the snow and ice while living in Wisconsin.

We loved our midwest life and enjoy being there in the summers but once the cold hits we’re gone. Somehow sitting by the outdoor pool sounds so much better than shoveling snow.

Everything in Arizona isn’t always great, though. Just this week while sitting with a group of people we encountered our first scorpion. It was about 1.5 inches long and was found crawling on a boot of someone that had been previously walking in a vegetated area. Luckily it was spotted before anyone was endangered from it’s venomous stinger.

Arizona is also home to venomous rattlesnakes. We haven’t seen any here this year but do know they are around and are always on the lookout for them. As the colder weather sets in they will enter brumation, a process similar to hibernation, and will be less likely to be seen. They do surface during the winter months to drink water so we will continue to be aware of their possible presence.

We do know that the possibility of encountering snakes and scorpions are a big turn-off to some people, however, the sightings are infrequent and rarely result in harm. Although we’re not big fans of either, we are willing to risk the chance of living near them as long as it means we are granted the great Arizona winter weather.

All nights this week were spent at Fiesta Grande RV Resort where we are camp hosting for the winter. Follow along below for a look into our week of fun in the sun.

Mile Driven – RV

Miles Driven – Car

We survived our first week of being official camp hosts in Arizona. The time flew by as we were busy learning the business side of the campground/resort world along with meeting tons of new people. The best part was getting to drive “Guber” the host golf cart around. Our position at the resort is one week on/two weeks off. Wouldn’t it be nice if all jobs had a schedule like this one?

We are getting very spoiled with all the amenities at Fiesta Grande RV Resort in Casa Grande, AZ. One of the two laundry rooms here is only 86 steps from our door (yes, we counted). The room is sparkling clean with super nice washers and dryers that are priced very reasonably. The machines have the option of taking credit cards so no need to drag around a pile of quarters. We used to stretch out trips to the laundromat for as long as possible but here we don’t mind going at all.

Evenings in Arizona are equally as beautiful as the days are. Once the sun starts to set, it becomes refreshingly chilly enough for sleeves and the blue skies morph into shades of red, orange and pink.

Th outdoor TV on our Thor Vegas gets the most use during football season. It’s so nice to be able to enjoy both the games and great fall weather at the same time.

Having an outdoor office sounds like a great idea but it is entirely counterproductive. People at our resort are so friendly that they stop to talk whenever we’re outside and we never seem to get any work done. Good thing we’re our own boss as socializing is way more fun than working.

$9.97 for a table full of produce! Superstition Ranch Market in Mesa, Arizona always has a great selection of fruits and vegetables at rock bottom prices. It’s definitely worth a stop there when in the Phoenix metro area.

We’re looking forward to sampling citrus fruit grown right at our resort. There are lemon, orange and grapefruit trees here with fruit that will ripen later this winter.

We are absolutely loving our time in Arizona and our new experiences at being Camp Hosts. Stay tuned for next week to see what fun activities we find to do while basking in the sunshine. See you then!
